Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

How does CSU’s Rideshare work?

It’s easy! In order to use RideShare, you must first log in using your Ename and Epassword. This allows for only CSU affiliated individuals to use the service. You can update information in your profile, noting radio, smoking and contact preferences. The system automatically generates an anonymous screen name; this is what other users will see displayed in your posting. Make sure to select the UPDATE button at the bottom of the page to note any revised information in your profile.
From there, you can select the HOME tab to view available rides or conduct specific searches.
To offer or get a ride, select the POST A RIDE tab and following the instructions.

What are the different kinds of ride searches offered?

Common searches are noted on the HOME tab. You can search in the following ways:

  • All rides to campus
  • All ski trips
  • All recurring trips
  • All rides within the last 30 days
  • All “entertainment” rides (concerts, sports, etc.)

Additional searches are related to work, to the airport, vacations and other. You can sort any search by clicking on a particular word in the blue strip – destination/map, origin, destination/purpose, etc.

How long will my posts stay active?

All posts expire after the end date you specify for your given trip. You will receive a courtesy deactivation email from which you can easily reactive your post if you so choose.

What is my commitment when I set up an account with CSU’s Rideshare?

There is no obligation to participate in CSU’s Rideshare program. Setting up an account will allow you to easily post a ride, should you so choose. You may remove a post at any time by simply logging in to the system and selecting your account and deactivating a post.
Setting up an account also allows you to view and conduct searches of available rides. Conducting a search does not obligate you to participate but gives you the information so you can select the carpooling options you prefer.

What if I'm not sure about carpooling with a stranger?

All users are given a screen name for security purposes, so your actual name will not be posted online. In your profile, you may choose to be contacted by email or by phone. Contact your carpool match by phone or email. Then meet in a neutral location to discuss arrangements. Feel free to bring a friend for support. If you're uncomfortable at any point in the process, then simply decline the offer.

How is my personal information used when I register?

CSU’s Rideshare program is only accessible to CSU affiliates who have an Ename and Epassword. Your name, home street address and phone number will not appear on another user’s match report. The system automatically generates an anonymous screen name; this is what other users will see displayed in your posting. You will, however, need to provide work phone, cell phone number, or email address so future matches can contact you. The information you provide is used exclusively for the purpose of assisting registrants to find better ways to commute and is not distributed or sold for any other purposes. All data transmission over the Internet of sensitive data is encrypted and secure.

What if I need to leave work quickly due to an emergency and I don't have my vehicle at work? Or if I drove, how will my carpool buddies get home?

We encourage you to discuss emergency situations with any people you are carpooling with.

Is there a charge for this service or to join a carpool?

There is no charge to use CSU’s Rideshare program. How much you pay/charge when you join/form a rideshare arrangement depends on the circumstances of the participants. Discuss expenses and reach an agreement with all involved.

How much money will I save?

That will depend on the trip frequency and destination. However, the AAA (American Automobile Association) lists their composite national average as $0.52 per mile, which includes maintenance, tires, insurance, license and registration, loan finance charges and depreciation costs. However, the study used an average fuel price of $2.41 per gallon. Considering gasoline prices are volatile these numbers are likely to rise and fall depending on many factors.

What if can’t find a match that works for me?

You may want to re-run your search by changing your trip frequency or destination preferences. Or, you can post a ride that meets your needs so that other users may contact you.
